CAIRO, April 1 (UPI) -- Officials said Arab and Palestinian figures had asked Mashaal to take on a fourth term as the movement's leader during a meeting of Hamas leaders with Egyptian intelligence chief Rafat Shehata Sunday and Monday in Cairo.

Khaled Mashaal was reelected on Monday as the political chief of Hamas, Arab media outlets reported, citing sources within the Islamist group. The report has not been confirmed.
