Amul Thapar becomes second Indian-American judge of US Court of Appeals

The United States Senate has confirmed Indian-American Judge Amul Thapar to a key judicial position on the powerful US court of appeals. The first Indian-American to be nominated by US President Donald Trump for the 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals, Thapar was confirmed by the Senate 52-44, a vote which took place on party lines. With this, Thapar will become the second South Asian judge to be on a US Circuit Court of Appeals, which hears appeals from Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio and Michigan.

Trump reiterates wiretapping claim; report finds no evidence

A classified report delivered by the United States Justice Department to House and Senate investigators does not confirm President Donald Trump’s allegations that the former president Barack Obama wiretapped him during last year's presidential campaign, CNN reported citing sources with knowledge of the classified report’s contents. The Justice Department declined to comment on the contents of the report, but, earlier in the day, a spokeswoman confirmed it had delivered the document.
